Discriminatory Dommes: Why Sex Workers Should Support Other Sex Workers

Why do we follow who we follow on social media? Sex workers use social media as a marketing tool and as a way to express ourselves. We follow people who interest us and can help us to grow our businesses. Which is why it's a bit short sighted when some dommes only follow and network with other dominatrices on social media. No, I don't think certain dommes are discriminatory per say when it comes to who they network with. They seem to be unaware that they may be losing out on income.

When I first started working as a kink provider and companion, I was afraid to openly advertise my domme and kink activities for fear of scaring the locals. (The vanillas who think "domme" always = disrespectful bitch.) I would follow dommes on Twitter because I genuinely love domme imagery and saw a decent amount of sub clients but dommes would never follow me back. Not seeing the point of supporting someone who doesn't support me, I inevitably unfollowed them after a while.

Over time, I started seeing more and more kink clients and came out of the dominatrix closet. Openly advertising as a domme and companion, I started a Bluesky account and followed a bunch of sex workers, including dommes although I knew they would mostly ignore me, thinking we didn't share the same clientele. I'd say 40% of the dommes who I followed would follow me back on Bluesky due to my stating in my bio that I'm a domme.

Any professional companion (or "escort") knows that many of our clients are kinky. They see dommes in addition to escorts. Now, a guy who sees a kinky GFE escort (meaning a domme/escort) possibly isn't going to go see a niche domme. I can understand why the more niche dommes, like knife dommes, don't support or engage with companions. However, a lot of the more "mainstream" dommes don't have experience as full service companions and may not realize that we share a lot of the same clients. It makes sense to network with escorts from a purely business perspective because of this.

Many providers who advertise in the "escort" section peg, restrain, choke, spank, slap, facesit, wrestle and domme clients but they may not lean into these activities publicly.

Dommes that follow and engage with "escorts" who advertise as kinky can possibly set up duos with those providers. Many companions have straight up domme (without full service) clients. If a domme comments on a kinky companion's post, they may be seen by the companion's kinky client who may end up following and booking a session with the domme.

My naive opinion is that sex workers should support other sex workers. I try to follow back and support all sex workers on social media. Yes, I may mute a few super annoying spammers or those who don't post content that pertains to me, but we're stronger when we stand together.

We're all second class citizens in the eyes of mainstream society. I don't see the point to life if I'm simply here to make money and have no higher purpose. Part of my life's purpose is destigmatizing sex work and part of that work involves, at a bare minimum, following and engaging with my community online.

It's also good business to follow back and engage with your colleagues and I consider all SWers my colleagues. The more SWers who follow us, like our posts and repost us, the more our engagement increases and we can be found by prospective clients on social media.

Don't take my word for it: A famously narcissistic escort once told me that she's "nice" to other SWers publicly, love bombs their comment section and follows back all other sex workers because, "It's good for business and getting followers," and, if there's one thing these types of disordered folks know, it's how to mine engagement and attention online.

Engagement and attention are very good for business.

In summation (my my, is this my college Sociology thesis?), it benefits all SWers when we support one another. Financially, ethically, spiritually, narcissistically. 😜
